This herb may offer pain relief for arthritis sufferers because of its anti-inflammatory properties. It comes from boswellia tree gum, and frankincense is a resin extract of the boswellia tree.

It’s thought that this herbal remedy helps reduce arthritis pain by inhibiting different enzymes than typical NSAIDs, with virtually no side effects.

Boswellia plants and trees have been used for thousands of years as an anti-arthritis drug, and recent research is confirming that  boswellia is beneficial in reducing the pain and swelling of osteo- and rheumatoid arthritis.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is an herb that is known for having healing properties, and it’s excellent for treating burns and minor skin abrasions. If you have aloe vera gel on hand, consider applying it topically to help ease the pain of aching joints.

Many studies are showing that aloe vera is useful for reducing the pain and inflammation of arthritis pain. Used topically, aloe vera rarely causes any side effects and it’s very gentle on the skin.

Aloe vera juice, taken internally, helps to coat and heal the stomach from other anti-inflammatory drugs, as well as soothing inflammation and pain of arthritis, from the inside.

Aloe Vera plants are Very Easy to grow, have Many beneficial properties, and we should ALL have one on hand!

Eucalyptus is easy to find and is often used in oral medications. Eucalyptus essential oil is an old remedy used to treat a variety of health problems, including the pain and swelling of arthritis. A few drops are warmed and applied to the area of concern, and then covered in plastic wrap and kept warm.

The tannins found in eucalyptus leaves may prove helpful for arthritis suffers, helping to reduce pain and swelling. Topical forms of this herbal remedy are often used in conjunction with a heating pad to maximize the results.

Eucalyptus and peppermint essential oils mixed together, combining their analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, make a strong mixture to help with the pain of arthritis.

I recently tripped and fell while on a walk outdoors. I twisted my right knee pretty good, and could barely even walk the next day. The next 3 days were filled with a lot of pain and limited movement, and using a cane to get around the house.

I followed the directions here for the pain and inflammation, mixing eucalyptus and peppermint essential oils with a little olive oil, and rubbed it into the sore areas a couple of times a day.

By the 4th day I had very little pain and no more swelling, and no more cane.

I SO LOVE Essential Oils, they are like little Miracle-Workers!

Back To Nature Is The BEST!

Cat’s Claw

Cat’s claw has been improving the symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis for centuries. It comes from a tropical vine,  and medicine has been made from its root and bark.

It can be used to boost the immune system, for digestive disorders, and internal inflammations. Cat’s claw has also been used for shingles, chronic fatigue syndrome, ulcers and the AIDS virus. It is believed to contain chemicals that kill cancer cells.

Cat’s claw is available in capsules, tablets, tea bags and liquid. You want to look for ‘uncaria tomentosa’ on the label, as there are many types of cat’s claw plants, and all do not provide the properties needed for arthritis relief.

Do not use Cat's Claw if you are on blood thinners, blood pressure medications, or immune system suppressants.

Green Tea

Green tea is known for being a delicious way to take in important antioxidants, but it’s also a great natural treatment for arthritis pain. It works by reducing inflammation in the body, which may help to relive the pain and swelling that come with both rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

Green tea works by stopping production of certain inflammatory chemicals present in our body. Green tea can be taken in tinctures, as a beverage, and in tablets.

Most people have some ginger in the spice cabinet to use to flavor various dishes, but ginger is also an excellent herbal remedy for arthritis. It has been used for centuries in Asia for arthritis and nausea.

The compounds that provide ginger with its strong, signature flavor have anti-inflammatory properties. Taking ginger may help to reduce swelling in joints, particularly in individuals with rheumatoid and osteo-arthritis.

It can be found as a powder, tincture, oil or capsule. Take up to 3 cups of tea daily, or as directed on the capsule bottle.

Ginger can interfere with blood-thinning medications.

Turmeric, a yellow powder that is used in curry seasoning, is one of the best herbal remedies for stopping the pain that comes with arthritis. The root of the turmeric plant has been long used as a medicine. It has been used in traditional Indian healing for stomach problems, poor circulation, skin diseases, as well as arthritis.

Turmeric has been found to help reduce inflammation, and some recent studies have shown that it may be able to slow the progression and damage of rheumatoid arthritis.

Turmeric can be taken in capsule form, but check with your doctor before mixing with any prescription medications as interactions may occur.

Cayenne pepper, red peppers, chili peppers, all contain the pain relieving chemical capsaicin, which is so potent that a tiny amount is the ‘active ingredient’ in some powerful pharmaceutical topical analgesic creams.

Many studies have shown that capsaicin is successful in reducing the pain associated with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, as well as fibromyalgia and other nerve pain.

Capsaicin works by intercepting and decreasing the pain messages going to the brain. It can also trigger your body to release its own pain releasing endorphins.

Outside of the U.S., most people just crush red peppers and rub it directly on the painful area. The crushed red peppers can also be mixed into a white lotion, until it turns pink.

In cream or gel form, gently rub a thin layer into affected area. Use daily to get the most benefits from it, which may take a week or two or more for arthritis pain to subside.

Capsaicin can cause burning and irritation, keep away from eyes and sensitive skin!
