Clinical depression is different than the occasional mood fluctuations of not being able to handle occasional issues.
It turns into a serious problem when it is long-lasting or if the moods seriously impact daily living.
Depression affects one in 10 Americans, but can be higher in different ethnicities or even the state that you live in.
African-Americans and Hispanics have the highest rate of depression.
States with the highest rates of depression are mainly southern/midwestern U.S., including:
West Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
Unemployed people and recently divorced people are more likely to suffer from depression.
Depression is most prevalent in people ages 45-64.
Women have a much higher rate than men, and postpartum depression affects one out of every 10 new mothers.

S.A.D. Light Therapy Box - Light therapy boxes, or SAD light therapy, are finally being taken seriously as an aid for lifting depression.
The National Institute of Mental Health has been been using light therapy with success since the early 1980’s.
Many researchers in the U.S. and abroad have had much success with light therapy. A recent study has been published in the American Medical Association’s journal ‘JAMA Psychiatry’.
